Sensible Shoe Diaries
I took the Merrell winter boots out for a full day of walking around Central Park. They did the best job they could with what they were working with (my feet). I tried my best to sustain an overlay of fantasy on my outing. People stopping abruptly for selfies and then making comments under their breath when I didn't stop along with them posed a real challenge. In fantasy NYC, I might be the troll to some but that is simply a disguise.
I had a full day of walking in the Merrell boots and the weather warmed up at night so I switched to the Vaneli loafers. I was in a lot of pain at the end of the night. I hate to say it but the Vanelis are dead to me even though I love them.
I pivoted to the Asics sneaker the next day. I ate a nibble of a thc/cbc gummy before heading out. I am a super lightweight don’t like weed. I got the gummies after reading that cbc (whatever that is) is recommended for pain relief. I figured I should try whatever I could since Tylenol does very little and I am running out of my supply of real pain killers left over from surgeries I had in 2022. When I take a quarter of an expired hydrocodone for my pain, that is what I call “going Dr. House mode”
I find that these gummies do not relieve my pain at all but make me hyper aware of all the pain and misalignment in my body while making my mind and spirit a bit lighter and clearer. They are good for stretching and maintaining correct posture, but don't numb the pain.
My tendons were on fire even before putting on the Asics and they continued to burn all day.
Nevertheless I went out and enjoyed the sunshine, read, and saw friends.
Daffodil is beginning to shoot up!
Every morning I do at the very least 2/5 of my physical therapy exercises, stretch, and massage an herbal oil into my chronically tense calves.
In my previous Orthopedic Shoefluencer Dreams post, I forgot to include: a pair of Palladium canvas boots that were pretty comfortable. I wore those in 2019-2020 then bought a new pair in 2023 in the same size but they were too big so I returned them.
I also forgot to include a pair of Birkenstocks (the closed-toe and heel style) that I bought last year and returned because they were too big as well.
Right now I am considering purchasing cork insoles from a company called Fulton I found while searching for cork sole footwear. One review claims they are even better than custom orthotics, and a banner on the website boasts “97% pain decrease”. I hope to god that is true.
